And The Mid-Season Fantasy Hockey Awards Go To…

So we’re just about half way through the season, which means it’s time to give out the mid-season fantasy awards. Check out the winners.

Remember, this is not based on standard scoring. This is based on my own personal scoring. If you play standard scoring I have no respect for you.

Best Offensive Player

Alex Ovechkin

ovigif

No surprise here. We’re balls deep in Ovi’s prime right now so just sit back and enjoy. The dude is projected a ridiculous 70-plus goals this season, and Gretzky thinks he can reach 80! The best thing about Ovi is that he packs on the points in every category. Hits, penalties, and shots for days. No matter what, Ovi is getting you points day in and day out.

Honorable mentions: Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane,Corey Perry

Best Defensive Player

Erik Karlsson

There’s no debating it. Karlsson is the best offensive defender in the game right now. He’s one of the few defenders in the league that can outscore half your offense on any given night and he’s a monster on the powerplay.

Honorable mentions: Dustin Byfuglien, PK Subban, Duncan Keith

Best Goalie

Tuukka Rask

This one was really close, but I had to give it to Tuukka based on the fact that I believe the B’s will finish with more wins than the Bolts and Flower tends to fall apart late in the season. Tuukka is a stud tender with one of the NHL’s strongest defenses in front of him. That’s a deadly combo for a fantasy tender. Win city bitch.

Honorable mentions: Marc Andre Fleury, Ben Bishop

Biggest Disappointment

Steven Stamkos

Leg…MVP turned biggest disappointment. It’s a crying shame Stevie.

Honorable mentions: Henrik Lundqvist, Marian Gaborik, Jimmy Howard, Loui Eriksson, Ray Emery

Biggest Surprise

Alexander Steen

What the fuck is this guy’s problem this season? Like holy fuck where did this shit come from? He already has more goals (24) right now than he’s ever had in a season. Will he stay this hot? Probably not. But even if he doesn’t he’s already given you more production than you could have ever asked for. Good on ya kid.

Honorable mentions: Ben Biship, Josh Harding, Jason Garrison

Rookie of the Year

Tomas Hertl

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Hertl started off hot and never looked back. He’s a NHL first-year first-liner, has 15 goals so far this season, and a smoking hot girlfriend just to top it all off. The kid has it all. I’m hoping this injury doesn’t keep him out too long, he’s too fun to watch.

Honorable mentions: Sean Monahan, Nathan MacKinnon, Torey Krug

And now, the big one…

MVP

Alex Ovechkin

It’s gotta be Ovi. He’s a fantasy machine. He fills every category. As long as he’s healthy, he’ll lead all players in points. Period. End of story.

Honorable mentions: Sidney Crosby, Marc Andre Fleury, Tuuka Rask, Ben Bishop, Patrick Kane
